Diogo Jota surpasses Ronaldo and makes offside admission as Liverpool book FA Cup semi-final berth

Diogo Jota has stepped up in the absence of Mo Salah

The name of Liverpool attacker Diogo Jota has taken centre stage in the post-match chatter, following the club's showdown with Nottingham Forest on Sunday evening.

Jurgen Klopp's troops were of course back in action a short time ago.

After closing the gap ever further on table-topping Manchester City in the Premier League in midweek, the Merseysiders made the trip to Nottingham, for an FA Cup showdown with the aforementioned Forest.

And, when all was said and done at the City Ground, the fine spell of form being enjoyed by Liverpool only continued, en route to an eventual 1-0 win.

Diogo Jota proved the match-winner, breaking Forest's offside line by the narrowest of margins to slot home the game's winner inside the closing quarter of an hour:

One individual who evidently feels that the Portuguese was somewhat lucky not to see his winner chalked off, though, is none other than Jota himself.

Speaking to the media on the back of the full-time whistle at the City Ground, Liverpool's in-form attacker was not shy in admitting that he was sure he had strayed offside before picking out the corner of Forest's net:

Owing to his goal passing the ensuing VAR check, though, Jota managed to break his tie with compatriot and Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo, to establish himself as the outright top Portuguese scorer across Europe's top-5 leagues this season:

Guardiola and co. lie in wait

Liverpool's eventual triumph at the City Ground on Sunday night has seen the Merseysiders set up an altogether mouthwatering FA Cup final four tie in just shy of a month’s time.

Their upcoming opponents at Wembley? Manchester City.

The FA Cup’s semi-final draw was held prior to kick off in Nottingham this evening, with the two contenders for the Premier League title having been pitted against one another, alongside a London derby clash between Chelsea and Crystal Palace.
