Mount has had a rough 2022/23 campaign with Chelsea and that form has continued into the World Cup.
Mount started vs the USA in Englandβs second group game and was pretty poor throughout the match.
During the game, fans continued to call for him to be subbed and Phil Foden instead place in the CAM role.
However, Mount somehow made it through the full 90 despite England using all their subs.
But he was then dropped for the 3-0 win over Wales, with Jude Bellingham and Jordan Henderson instead taking up no.8 roles in front of Declan Rice.
Now, Rice has been discussing Mount and the criticism he receives:
βHe is one of the best players Iβve played with β and Iβm not saying that because heβs my best mate. If you see the way he helps the team, I think thatβs why Gareth is so keen on him and picks him all the time.
βNot only with the ball, his quality he shows in abundance for England and Chelsea, but the way he is off the ball: you donβt see many number 10s who have that together. He is such a team player, such a hard-working, honest guy.β
Rice added: βSometimes fans, people online, social media, they just donβt like him. For what reason I honestly donβt know. But, look, his numbers for Chelsea are incredible.
βHeβs won the Champions League, won the Super Cup, at such a young age and for the rest of his career, he can go on and be whatever he wants to be. And I know he doesnβt let that noise get to him.β
