Cristiano Ronaldo’s goalless start continues as Al-Nassr fall to Al-Ittihad in Saudi Super Cup

Cristiano Ronldo’s hit-and-miss start to life in Saudi Arabia continued on Thursday evening, as the veteran attacker found himself unable to guide Al-Nassr to the final of the country’s Super Cup.

CR7, of course, opted to take his talents to Asia late last month.

After coming to an agreement on the termination of his contract with Manchester United, the Portuguese international left his legendary European career in the rear view, to put pen to paper on a lucrative deal with Saudi giants Al-Nassr.

Widely expected to take the nation by storm, however, Ronaldo’s time in Riyadh has since gotten off to an inauspicious start.

After netting twice in a friendly meeting with French champions Paris Saint-Germain, the 37-year-old subsequently blanked on his competitive debut last time out, as Al-Nassr ran out narrow victors over Ettifaq.

And, as alluded to above, his efforts did not exactly prove all that much more fruitful on Thursday.

In fact, they took a firm turn for the worse.

Ronaldo’s Al-Nassr marked their return to action a short time ago, facing off with Al-Ittihad in the semi-finals of the Saudi Super Cup.

And, when all was said and done at the King Fahd International Stadium, it was the latter who emerged triumphant.

Despite Al-Nassr dominating when it came to both possession and chances created, goals on the part of all of Romarinho, Abderrazak Hamdallah and Mohammed Alshanqiti ensured that it was Al-Ittihad who went on to book their spot in the finale of the Saudi Super Cup.

For Ronaldo, in turn, the wait for both a first goal, and piece of silverware, rumbles on.
