Cristiano Ronaldo set to finish a season without a trophy for first time in 16 years

Cristiano Ronaldo is set to finish a campaign without a single trophy for the first time in 16 years.

2021/22 was Ronaldo’s first season back at United since his switch to Real Madrid in 2010.

Throughout much of his United career and during all of his time with Real Madrid and Juventus, Ronaldo was able to win at least one trophy every single season.

However, he will not be doing so this term. Manchester United crashed out of the League Cup in the 3rd round vs West Ham. The Red Devils were then ousted from the FA Cup by Championship outfit Middlesbrough in the 4th round.

Now, of course, the Reds have crashed out of the Champions League at the Round of 16 stage. This means CR7 is to end a season trophyless for the first time since 2004/05:

Manchester United lose to Atletico

United, though they won vs Tottenham, gave Spurs far too much room in behind their full-backs this past weekend. But instead of learning from this, Ralf Rangnick set his side up in a similar way and it ultimately cost them.

And, after going 1-0 down, Manchester United players and staff played right into the Spanish outfit’s hands, losing their heads at every bit of time-wasting from Diego Simeone’s men.

Ronaldo, for his part, did not manage a single shot in the game, except one which was offside.
