Cristiano Ronaldo financially helps struggling players in Portugal

The Associated Press reporter Rob Harris has spoken to former West Ham midfielder Joao Mario during Covid-19 lockdown.

Joao Mario is now on loan at Russian side Lokomotiv Moscow from Italian club Inter Milan.

During the interview, Joao Mario revealed how Juventus forward Cristiano Ronaldo has helped mobilise his compatriots to help footballers lower down the food chain in Portugal. Joao Mario said:

They really need our help … so I’m trying to give them my support.

Cristiano presented us an initiative for us all to help especially those players that are struggling, that do not have professional contracts.

He is always trying to give the example, not just with us, but also by himself. We can see how much he is doing now with this situation for Portugal.

So, for us as teammates, it is great to see what he is trying to do.

It’s not just football players that earn big money or have big contracts. Everyone that can help people should do because we are talking about people in many cases that don’t have food to give to their kids.

Juventus star’s jet is grounded in Madrid

According to the Daily Mail, Cristiano Ronaldo is “stuck in Madeira and unable to return to Turin with his £30m private jet grounded”.

Ronaldo owns a G650 Gulfstream jet, valued at 30 million pounds. However, the plane is currently parked in Madrid.

Spanish aviation authorities are reportedly denying Ronaldo’s jet from leaving the country.

The Daily Mail report that Ronaldo’s “plane has attempted to take off on three occasions”, however it’s so far failed to get authorisation.

However, it’s reported that Ronaldo could return to Juventus by the start of next week:

The logistical headache should be resolved on Monday with Ronaldo expected to land in Italy in the early evening.
