Chelsea tipped to land another Barcelona attacker in January

Word stemming from the Spanish media on Friday points towards Chelsea as a potential landing spot for a member of La Liga leaders Barcelona’s attacking ranks.

The player in question? Memphis Depay.

Versatile frontman Depay has endured an altogether frustrating campaign to date in Catalunya.

Owing to a combination of fitness woes and fresh competition for places on the back of the summer arrivals of both Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha, the Dutchman has been restricted to a paltry total of just two La Liga appearances.

Hotly tipped for a Barcelona departure over the summer, it should therefore come as little surprise to hear of fresh speculation linking Depay with a Camp Nou exit surfacing ahead of the January transfer window.

And one such outfit, as alluded to above, understood to remain keen on the services of the one-time Manchester United man comes in the form of Graham Potter’s Chelsea.

Now, though, it could well be those in a position of power at Stamford Bridge who view themselves as being in pole position.

This comes amid claims on the part of Spanish outlet Diario AS that Depay looks almost certain to be on the move this January.

And the 28-year-old, for his part, is now open to the possibility of taking his talents to west London, too.

Amid suggestions that his signature could be secured for a measly fee in the region of €5 million, Chelsea, still searching for their identity in the attacking third, could therefore swoop decisively in January to reunite Depay with former Blaugrana teammate Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
