Chelsea takeover latest: Two suitors added to shortlist, one rejected

Roman Abramovich has been in charge of Chelsea since 2003

Two of the leading candidates to take up the reins from Roman Abramovich as owner of Premier League giants Chelsea have, on Friday, discovered the outcome of their respective offers.

First up comes American businessman and investor Todd Boehly, viewed by many as the frontrunner to take charge of the European champions ahead of the 2022/23 campaign.

As per the reliable Nizaar Kinsella of Goal, Boehly is indeed being considered by the Raine Group as a candidate to step into the hotseat at Stamford Bridge.

The Eldridge Industries chief, in turn, was informed of as much by Chelsea on Thursday night:

On the flip side, Nick Candy, property tycoon and lifelong Chelsea fan, has been informed that he is not amongst the candidates shortlisted to become the club's new owner.

Candy nevertheless remains keen on a joint-bid alongside another of the interested parties, though:

Word of the outcome of Boehly and Candy's respective bids of course comes fresh on the back of another key contender to take over at Chelsea being knocked back on Thursday.

The party in question? The Saudi Media Group:

*Update* - Word was forthcoming a short time ago that another potential buyer in west London has this evening seen their bid approved, and been added to the final shortlist to replace Roman Abramovich.

The party in question? The Ricketts family.

News of the Ricketts' ongoing efforts to take over at Chelsea will no doubt be met with widespread backlash over the hours to come.

This comes after the hashtag #NoToRicketts began to trend across a range of social media platforms across the week to date.

The public rejection of the Ricketts’ bid has been fronted by none other than the Chelsea faithful, owing to both the struggles of the family's Chicago Cubs, and, even more significantly, the unveiling of alleged Islamophobic emails sent by Joe Ricketts (the father of Tom, the man behind the bid) back in 2019.
