Is there a crisis brewing at Chelsea?
If you are the manager of Chelsea, a poor run of form, even over just a few games, can set alarm bells ringing.
As a result, if you are Chelsea boss Antonio Conte, you will not be too happy reading the back page of The Times on Friday.
Antonio Conte may have guided Chelsea to the Premier League title last season, but it appears all is not well at Stamford Bridge.
This has been evident since the summer, when Conte complained about Chelsea’s transfer activity.
The season so far has been patchy for a side that was so impressive last season.
Chelsea have already lost three Premier League games and are nine points adrift of leaders Manchester City.
Chelsea players are unhappy with Antonio Conte
Matt Hughes, usually a reliable source for Chelsea news, reveals that the Chelsea squad are currently unhappy with Antonio Conte.
They feel the club’s intense training sessions and work load are causing poor results and injury problems.
Conte has stuck to a similar training schedule to last season, when Chelsea were not playing any European football.
The Chelsea first team had three training sessions between Saturday’s defeat to Crystal Palace and the 3-3 draw with Roma on Wednesday.
Hughes reports that “several members of the squad have privately complained of fatigue.”
Is Conte causing the Chelsea injury problems?
Some Chelsea players are even suggesting that Conte is the cause of some of their injury problems. Due to working the players too hard.
N’Golo Kante and Victor Moses are out with hamstring injuries. Alvaro Morata picked up an injury before the international break.
And, David Luiz and Tiemoue Bakayoko are now doubts for the Watford match on Saturday.
Chelsea players “remain supportive of Conte but would like him to tweak his approach”.
Meanwhile, Conte is still unhappy he didn’t get all his summer transfer targets.
Is this the beginning of the end for Antonio Conte?
