Championship round-up gameweek 5: Middlesbrough struggle, West Brom dominate & more

The fifth gameweek of the 2022/23 Championship season drew to a close on Sunday afternoon with Bristol City and Cardiff going head-to-head.

Before that, though, there was plenty of action across the league. Here is everything you need to know about gameweek 5 of this season’s Championship.

Championship round-up gameweek 5

Week five of the Championship began on Friday evening as Norwich City faced off with Millwall. The Canaries headed into the tie searching for their second win of the season. And, somewhat surprisingly, managed to come away with a 2-0 win.

There were then 10 Championship games on Saturday, all of which took place at 3 pm.

Among the most notable games from Saturday, Blackburn’s early season form has now completely fallen off a cliff, having lost two in a row - the latest defeat being a 3-0 hammering at the hands of Sheffield United.

That result put the Blades top of the Championship heading into gameweek six.

Elsewhere, Watford and Preston played out a 0-0 draw to remain two of just a few unbeaten teams still left in the division.

On the other end of the scale, though, West Brom and Hull had one of the games of the season, with the Baggies coming away with a 5-2 victory.

Coventry also saw yet another game postponed this past weekend, meaning they have now played just twice this season. They are, along with Middlesbrough the only sides yet to win a league game in 2022/23. Unlike Coventry, though, Boro have actually played all five games of their season so far.

The weekend’s Championship action was then rounded out by Bristol City beating Cardiff City 2-0 on Sunday.
