Championship round-up gameweek 12: Watford start bright, Sheffield United held & more

The 12th gameweek of the 2022/23 Championship season drew to a close on Sunday afternoon with Stoke and Watford going head-to-head.

The gameweek began on Friday evening as Luton Town travelled to relegation-threatened Hull.

And, not too surprisingly, it was Luton who came away with a 2-0 win on the night.

There were then 10 Championship games played out at 3 pm on Saturday the 1st of October, including a relegation battle between Middlesbrough and Coventry.

Coventry headed into the match as the only side without a win this season. They had also scored the fewest goals in the division and their defensive record was not great.

That did not stop them from beating Boro 1-0, though, with the Teessiders in serious danger of slipping into League One with their current form.

The result has since led to Middlesbrough parting ways with Chris Wilder on Monday.

Elsewhere on Saturday, Norwich kept the pressure on Sheffield United by beating Blackpool 1-0.

Sheffield, meanwhile, were held by Birmingham and are just one point clear atop of the table now.

The race for the play-offs is also heating up, with Burnley, QPR and Blackburn now all on 18 points.

Watford are also seemingly back in the race after smashing Stoke 4-0 in their first match under Slaven Bilic.
