Brighton forward Trossard speaks out on Chelsea links amid contract standoff

The Belgian is out of contract in 2024

Leandro Trossard has revealed that Chelsea are yet to make contact either with Brighton or Trossard himself despite strong speculation that Graham Potter is keen to be reunited with the Belgian at Stamford Bridge.

The 27-year-old has been in red hot form for Brighton so far this campaign, having scored seven times and grabbed a further three assists in 13 outings for the soaring seagulls.

And such form, combined with the fact that Potter is now in charge in west London, has led to speculation that he could be on the radar of his former boss.

However, he revealed that no contact had yet been made.

“Chelsea have in any case not yet reported. Not with Brighton and not with me. I have to wait and see”, he told Belgian media.

“I want to finish strong at Brighton and leave for Qatar with that good feeling”, he added.

Trossard’s contract is thought to expire in 2024, with Potter having previously quashed rumours that the Belgian was in the final year of his deal this season.

And, when new boss Roberto Di Zerbi was quizzed on a potential new deal for the in-form forward last month, he expressed his desire to keep him at the club.

“Yes but this is not the right moment to speak about the new contract”, he replied when asked whether a new deal was something he was looking to offer his star.

“But in terms of the other players, for sure I hope and I would like Trossard to sign a new contract. But for the moment we have spoken about this with the club.”
