A concerning story surrounding Brentford star man Ivan Toney has come to the fore online late on Saturday evening.
The news comes courtesy of the Daily Mail, who have revealed that the talented hitman is under investigation on the part of the English Football Association.
The reason? Gambling allegations.
It is understood that Toney’s past activity is being looked into, relating to bets placed during his time in the lower divisions of English football, before joining Brentford.
Significantly, the assurance is also provided that the investigation does not relate to the England World Cup hopeful ever backing his own team to lose.
As per the Mail:
‘Toney has not been charged with any offence but it is thought that the investigation has been going on for seven months and has not yet reached its conclusion.’
Brentford themselves, meanwhile, have since released a statement on the matter.
The post, unveiled across the Bees’ official website and social media platforms, though, was simply made use of to clarify the fact that ‘the club will not be commenting’:
‘We note the story concerning Ivan Toney and the FA investigation. The club will not be commenting.’
