Ben Davies injury update provided ahead of Tottenham vs Newcastle

Wales national team boss Robert Page has, on Monday evening, provided an update on the fitness of Tottenham defender Ben Davies.

For those not aware, Davies departed the Welsh camp on Sunday, ahead of the nation's friendly meeting with the Czech Republic tomorrow evening.

After playing the full 90 minutes, and even chipping in with an assist in the Dragons' World Cup playoff downing of Austria, alarm bells surrounding a potential injury concern were, in turn, set ringing back on the Lilywhite half of north London.

Speaking in a pre-match press conference on Monday, the aforementioned Robert Page was therefore inevitably asked for an insight into the reasons behind Davies' return to Tottenham.

Wales' boss, though, was quick to assure that the decision came simply as a 'precaution', in a bid to 'show respect back' to those in a position of power at Spurs.

Magpies next up

Davies, as a result, appears altogether likely to be fit and available to feature in Tottenham's next outing.

Antonio Conte’s men are set to make their post-international break return to action this coming weekend, in a Premier League meeting with Newcastle United at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The clash, as will prove the case with each and every one of their outings over the closing weeks of the campaign, marks an absolutely crucial one, amid the Lilywhites' ongoing pursuit of a top-4 berth.

As things stand, Spurs sit 5th in the English top-flight, three points adrift of north London rivals Arsenal, who also boast a game in hand.
