Barcelona's unwanted nickname returns after congratulatory message to Real Madrid


 

Fans have flooded to social media on Saturday evening to poke fun at Spanish heavyweights FC Barcelona.

The Blaugrana, of course, are not set to return to action until tomorrow night, when they welcome RCD Mallorca to the Camp Nou, eyeing a return to winning ways.

Nevertheless, though, it has proven a less than ideal day to date for all associated with Xavi Hernandez's outfit.

This comes with arch rivals Real Madrid having secured the club's latest La Liga title with a full four games to spare, after romping to a 4-0 win over Espanyol.

The social media team at Barcelona, in turn, were quick to take to the club's official accounts post-match, to send a message of congratulations to their Clasico foes, as follows:

As alluded to above, though, this gesture on the part of the Blaugrana has since resulted in quite the backlash online.

Taking to the comments section in their absolute droves, fans of Real Madrid, and neutrals alike, have poked fun at Barca by means of the resurrection of a nickname long associated with the Catalans...
