Barcelona president outlines key change at club since Xavi took charge

Barcelona president Joan Laporta has been speaking out about the club’s current manager, Xavi Hernandez.

Xavi took charge of Barcelona back on the 6th of November 2021. The former midfielder took over with the club very much in disarray and struggling to even crack the top-four in La Liga.

However, after a solid January window that saw all of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Ferran Torres and Adama Traore brought in, Barcelona are looking a much better side.

Their most recent outing would see them smash four past Napoli as they booked their spot in the Europa League Round of 16.

Now, ahead of their next game, Laporta has highlighted how Xavi has helped change the mentality of the players:

"I want to highlight the good job that Xavi and his entire staff are doing. The change of mentality in the players and the new signings have given us a massive boost. I think we are progressing nicely."

Barcelona vs Athletic Bilboa

Barcelona are now set to face off with Athletic Bilboa on Sunday evening.

La Blaugrana head into the weekend’s action sat 4th in La Liga. And whilst they are level on points with 5th place Atletico Madrid, Barca do have a game in hand.

Athletic Bilboa, though, will be no pushover as they are 8th in the Spanish top-flight at present and have a very solid defensive record.

They have conceded just 21 in 25 league ties this term, with only Real Madrid and Sevilla better at the back.
