Barcelona boss Xavi hits out at VAR after losing to Inter

Xavi Hernandez has hit out at VAR following their defeat to Inter Milan in the Champions League.

After losing to Bayern Munich in GW2, Barcelona needed a positive result vs Inter to keep their hopes of finishing second alive.

However, when all was said and done at the San Siro, La Blaugrana fell to a 1-0 defeat.

Barca dominated possession in the first 45, but were unable to make their time on the ball count.

And in the 47th minute, Hakan Calhanoglu opened the scoring for the Serie A outfit.

Barcelona were unable to find an equaliser and unless they beat Inter in their next outing, it seems they will be spending another season in the Europa League.

VAR was the main talking point of the game on Tuesday as Pedri was denied an equaliser midway through the second half after Ansu Fati was pulled up for handball, while the Spanish giants saw a penalty claim waved away in the dying minutes for a very similar incident.

This led to Xavi expressing his displeasure at VAR post-match.

Speaking to reporters after the game Xavi said: “I’m p*ssed off about it. We don’t understand anything. If there’s a hand from Ansu and another scores it’s a goal, and they disallow it. And the other can’t be understood. It’s an injustice, the referees should explain because we don’t understand.”

Barcelona must now turn their attentions back to La Liga, where they face Celta Vigo on Sunday evening.
