Atletico Madrid handed personnel boost ahead of Manchester United second leg

Atletico Madrid have been handed a personnel boost ahead of their next Champions League outing with Manchester United.

The pair would face off in the first of two Round of 16 ties last month. In said tie, Geoffrey Kondogbia, who was actually only starting the game due to an injury picked up by Atletico captain Koke, dominated Manchester United’s midfield.

Unfortunately for Atletico Madrid, Kondogbia would then pick up an injury in their first game following his starring display vs Manchester United and he has been out of action since.

Now though, Spanish outlet AS have provided an update on the midfielder and it is good news for the Colchoneros.

AS reported on Monday that Kondogbia has trained with the first-team for the first time since he picked up his injury.

And whilst Atletico’s La Liga game with Cadiz is expected to come too soon for Kondogbia, the club are targeting a return to action for him vs Manchester United.

Manchester United vs Atletico Madrid

The Red Devils head into the second leg of the clash with something of an advantage after earning a 1-1 draw at the Wanda Metropolitano last time out thanks to a late Anthony Elanga strike.

And as away goals no longer count in the Champions League, Manchester United are now technically the favourites as they are playing the second leg at home with the scores still level.

However, it is fair to say predicting this game will be hard to do as United have been in poor form of late and were recently dominated by Manchester City.
