Arsenal’s Folarin Balogun matches 47-year-old Reims record during latest outing

Folarin Balogun has matched a 47-year-old record during his latest outing.

Balogun is a product of Arsenal’s academy and has spent the last year out on loan trying to garner some first-team experience.

Balogun spent the second half of 2021/22 on loan with Middlesbrough in the Championship. The striker showed clear signs of quality but was somewhat hampered by Chris Wilder’s constant chopping and changing of his two-man strike force.

For 2022/23, though, Balogun has been sent out on loan to Ligue 1 side Reims where he has become a regular feature almost instantly.

The 21-year-old came off the bench in gameweek 1 and scored as Reims fell to a 4-1 defeat at the hands of Marseille.

He then started last weekend in a 4-2 defeat vs Clermont Foot, scoring one and assisting one.

And now, on Sunday, Balogun was in from the off vs Strasbourg. Reims were forced to settle for a point but Balogun once again got himself on the scoresheet:

After netting on Sunday, it has been revealed that Balogun has become the first Reims player to score in each of his first three appearances for the club since Jacques Vergnes in August 1975.
