Arsenal revive interest in Barcelona star

Arsene Wenger waving goodbye

As per a report from Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, Arsenal are readying a move for Barcelona midfielder Rafinha.

Selecao star

Rafinha, brother of Bayern Munich midfielder Thiago, came up through the youth ranks at Barca, but has struggled to cement a regular starting spot for himself since breaking into the club’s first-team in 2011.

The twice-capped Brazilian international was heavily linked with a Camp Nou exit over the summer, following the arrival of yet another midfielder, Paulinho, at the club.

As well as playing in midfield, Rafinha has filled in at both full-back and as an attacker for Barca, making him an attractive proposition for his numerous suitors.

PL bound?

The 24-year-old has reportedly been tracked by all of AC Milan, Juventus, Tottenham, Liverpool and Arsenal in the past, with outlets in Spain having claimed earlier this year that the South American is keen on the idea of playing in the Premier League.

And, as per the aforementioned report from Mundo Deportivo, Arsenal are ready to renew their interest in Rafinha’s signature next summer.

The Gunners are said to be anticipating the likely exits of both Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez from the club, with the versatility possessed by Rafinha making him an ideal replacement for the North Londoners.

Recovery path

Rafinha has yet to make an appearance for Barca this season as he continues his recovery from knee surgery, with the possibility of a loan departure in January looking an increasingly likely possibility as the La Masia youth product aims to regain full fitness and increase his slim chances of earning a place in Brazil’s squad for next year’s World Cup.
