Arsenal boss Unai Emery responds to Denis Suarez transfer links

Suarez struggles at Barcelona

Denis Suarez rejoined his former club FC Barcelona in July of 2016 for a fee of around £2.9m.

However, since returning to the Catalan side, Suarez has found his first-team opportunities limited.

The midfielder has made 69 appearances across all competitions for Barca, in which he has scored eight and assisted 10.

Unfortunately for Suarez, many of those appearances have come as a substitute.

The 2018/19 campaign has also been filled with disappointment for the 25-year-old.

Suarez has played just twice in the league for Barcelona this season, coming off the bench for eight and nine-minute cameos.

Unai Emery on Suarez & Arsenal’s transfer plans

Due to his lack of game time, Suarez is being linked with a move away from the Camp Nou.

One club that has been heavily linked with the midfielder is Arsenal.

Unai Emery has been speaking to the media recently and has hinted that Arsenal could make some moves this January:

“Maybe the transfer market can help us with a centre-back, but it is not easy because also (Konstantinos) Mavropanos is coming back after injury.

“Also a winger, right or left, one player can help us in this position.”

After suggesting Arsenal need a new winger, Emery then commented on signing Suarez who Emery knows from his time as Sevilla boss:

“[Suarez] was playing in his career, and with me also, as a right or left winger.”

So, it seems as though Emery is keen to bring Suarez to Arsenal in January and perhaps use him on the wing rather than in his natural central midfield role.
