Advantage Chelsea? Brentford ready new signing to replace Blues target

The Bees are already planning for life after their star

Premier League clubs including Chelsea have been handed a major boost as Brentford are reportedly closing in on a move for Mark Flekken, paving the way for David Raya to leave the Bees this summer.

Raya has caught the eye since his arrival in the Premier League with Brentford, with his ability to play with his feet complimented by some tidy goalkeeping, and the 27-year-old has kept 11 clean sheets this campaign to help the Bees to their best ever Premier League finish as it stands.

Come this summer however, he will be entering the last 12 months of his contract, and the Spaniard is likely to attract widespread interest, with Chelsea, Manchester United and Tottenham all on the hunt for new goalkeepers at the end of this season.

The Blues are willing to listen to offers for both Kepa and Edouard Mendy, while Hugo Lloris is set to become no.2 at Tottenham and David de Gea likewise with the Red Devils.

Now, all three have been dealt a boost as it has emerged that Thomas Frank’s side are closing in on a deal to sign SC Freiburg goalkeeper Mark Flekken to replace Raya, suggesting that they will not stand in his way should he want to depart this summer.

Earlier in the season, Raya claimed a departure was likely, and he has turned down two contract offers to stay at the Community Stadium.

Though Brentford won’t stand in his way, they are expected to demand around £40m for their no.1, though that could come down as they weigh up selling him this summer or losing him for nothing in 12 months time.
