Germany v Greece Nations League preview

Germany will be looking for their first win under Jurgen Klopp when they welcome Greece to WWK Arena in Augsburg for a UEFA Nations League A clash on Sunday.

Die Mannschaft were held to a 1-1 draw by the Netherlands in Amsterdam on Thursday, while Greece won 2-1 in Serbia on the same night to begin their campaign with three points.

Germany will now return to home soil, where they have won their last five competitive matches. Their most recent home defeat came in June 2025, when Portugal and France both recorded Nations League victories in Germany during the semi-finals and third-place playoff.

However, Germany are currently without a win in their last three matches, having drawn once and lost twice during a run that included their defeat on penalties to Paraguay in the World Cup last 32 in June.

Greece, meanwhile, arrive in Augsburg after making an impressive start to life in Nations League A.

Piratiko looked set to suffer defeat in Belgrade after Serbia took a fourth-minute lead, but Arsenal forward Christos Tzolis levelled in the second half before substitute Anastasios Douvikas completed the comeback late on.

The result ended Greece’s five-game winless run across all competitions, which had included three draws and two defeats.

Germany have dominated the recent head-to-head record, with Greece failing to win any of their last 10 meetings with Die Mannschaft. Germany also won the most recent encounter, a 2-1 friendly victory in June 2024.

Germany suffered a major blow before kick-off against the Netherlands when Jamal Musiala picked up a thigh injury during the warm-up.

The Bayern Munich forward was replaced in the side by Nadiem Amiri and will miss the remainder of the international window.

Kai Havertz has also returned to Arsenal after suffering an injury during the draw in Amsterdam, leaving Klopp with fewer options in attack.

Florian Wirtz and Jonathan Burkardt have subsequently been called into the squad and could feature against Greece.

For the visitors, Douvikas could be rewarded for his match-winning appearance from the bench in Serbia with a starting role.

Germany will be eager to give Klopp his first victory as head coach on home soil after being denied by Cody Gakpo's 92nd-minute equaliser for the Netherlands. Greece showed plenty of character to come from behind against Serbia, but Germany should have enough quality to claim all three points in Augsburg.
