Real Madrid will aim to move three points behind La Liga leaders Barcelona when Los Blancos visit Atletico Madrid on Sunday.
Jose Mourinho’s side have won six of seven games in all competitions this season but Barca’s form means they may not be able to afford any slip-up in La Liga.
Atletico, meanwhile, have responded to back-to-back defeats against Athletic Club and Liverpool with a 3-0 win at Real Sociedad and a 4-0 thrashing of Osasuna in midweek.
Boss Diego Simeone said: “A derby is different. There is a tension and a huge rivalry that we have managed to recover in the last 15 years.”
The game will see old foes Simeone and Mourinho come head to head once again.
“I have great respect for Mourinho,” added Simeone. “I’m an admirer of him, he knows how much I appreciate him. I hope we can compete as we have done when we had to face each other.”
