It’s safe to say Southampton and Leicester City have had some famous meetings of late.

The Foxes last visit to St Mary’s, all be it 553 days ago, saw them secure English football’s biggest ever top-flight away win.

Ayoze Pérez and Jamie Vardy both scoring hat-tricks in a 9-0 drubbing in the pouring rain.

More recently, the two went head to head in the FA Cup semi-finals at Wembley.

Just 12 days ago, Kelechi Ịheanachọ scored the game’s only shot on target as Leicester reached the final.

What will this latest clash have in store?

In the last couple of games, Leicester have taken two enormous steps towards Champions League football.

On Monday night, they came from behind to beat Crystal Palace 2-1 at the King Power.

Ịheanachọ teeing up Timothy Castagne for the equaliser just after half time before the Nigerian, who was man of the match, smashed home the winner ten minutes from time.

That came four nights after Brendan Rodgers’ men had hammered West Bromwich Albion 3-0, also at home.

It is pivotal that Leicester get maximum points from those two games, this one and then Newcastle next Friday because their last three games are against Chelsea, Manchester United and Spurs.

The Foxes are currently third, four points above Chelsea, seven clear of West Ham and eight above Liverpool.

Will they pull further clear of the chasing pack ahead of the weekend’s fixtures?

As for Southampton, they were sixth on 4 January but now just can’t wait for this season to end.

In their last game, despite taking the lead through Danny Ings, they lost 2-1 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Ralph Hasenhüttl’s side have now lost 12 of their last 15 matches, winning just three of their last 20.

The 36 points they currently have should see them to safety but it’s an alarming way to end a campaign.

Will there be a winner on the south coast?

Prediction: Southampton 0-2 Leicester City

Leicester have won five of their seven meetings with Southampton, last losing at St Mary’s over four years ago.
