Manchester United forward Rasmus Hojlund admits he was disappointed with Erik ten Hag’s dismissal but admits he is excited about the future under Ruben Amorim.

The Red Devils parted ways with Ten Hag in October 2024 following a poor start to the season, appointing Amorim as his replacement.

Ten Hag had been in charge at Old Trafford for two-and-a-half years, securing both the Carabao Cup and FA Cup during his tenure.

However, despite significant investment in the squad, he was unable to assemble a team capable of seriously contending for the Premier League title.

United now look to Amorim to steer the club back to the top. The Portuguese coach has faced early difficulties, struggling to improve results as he navigates an ongoing injury crisis.

Currently, the team sits in 13th place in the league. Hojlund, brought to the club under Ten Hag’s management, has acknowledged his disappointment at the Dutchman’s departure but remains eager to work under Amorim.

Speaking to Tipsbladet, Hojlund said: “I’m focused on the task with Ruben, because that project is incredibly exciting, but Erik was of course one of the reasons why I moved to Manchester United.

“He was doing something good and was a talented coach, but it didn’t work out, and that’s how it is. I’m still very happy to be at Manchester United.

“It’s the club I’ve always dreamed of playing for. And I’m really happy for Ruben. He’s a cool character and a cool person.”

Hojlund recently broke a 21-game goal drought for Manchester United. His goal in the 3-0 victory against Leicester marked his first for the club since December 7, when he scored against Nottingham Forest.

The Danish striker is currently on international duty with Denmark for their Nations League quarter-final fixtures against Portugal.

Following the break, United will resume their Premier League campaign with an away match at Nottingham Forest’s City Ground as they look to finish the season strong under their new manager.
