Man United agree £70m deal for Brighton midfielder Baleba

Manchester United have agreed a deal to sign midfielder Carlos Baleba from Brighton and Hove Albion, according to multiple reports.

United will reportedly pay £65million plus £5m in add-ons for the Cameroon international, a long-term target for the Red Devils.

Baleba has been given permission to travel to Manchester to undergo a medical and complete the move.

The Cameroon international had a disappointing 2025-26 campaign in which he made 35 appearances but failed to hit the heights of his first two seasons at the Amex.

Baleba is sidelined with an ankle ligament injury but it is not thought to be a long-term problem.

When he does return to fitness, the 22-year-old will add physicality and athleticism to a United midfield already bolstered in recent weeks by the arrivals of Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos.

With Kobbie Mainoo and Manuel Ugarte, who is out with an injury suffered at the World Cup, also in the squad, the deal will allow boss Michael Carrick to focus his attention elsewhere.

United’s primary other area of concern is at left-back. They have been linked with Barcelona’s Alejandro Balde and are long-term admirers of Newcastle United’s Lewis Hall, but a move for the latter looks unlikely at this late stage of the transfer window.
