Liverpool ‘need to win again’ says Slot
The Reds have won game in seven
Liverpool manager Arne Slot says his focus is just on winning games as the Reds prepare for another tough week.
Defeat to Crystal Palace in the Carabao Cup in midweek made it six defeats in seven games in all competitions for the Premier League champions since the end of September.
And with games against Aston Villa, Real Madrid and Manchester City to come in the next seven days Slot needs to find a way to turn the season around.
Alexander Isak and Alisson remain sidelined for the Reds against Villa on Saturday, with Slot saying he has to find a way to get his team back on track.
He said: “My focus is completely on getting Liverpool back to winning ways. Let us first start to win again, that is my main focus.
“Maybe last season we were more lucky and now we are more unlucky.
“But, there are no excuses for our results before people say this. We have had to play a lot of away games with only two days rest in-between and that would have been difficult for our players last season and players that have been fit all pre-season but that has not been our situation.
“It is nothing to do with the squad depth, it is how we’ve gone throughout the season in terms of injuries and availability.”
‘No reason to change our style’
Slot played a young side in the cup defeat in midweek and has been criticised for the use of his squad.
But with three tough games ahead in the next week Slot said he will have to manage his players accordingly again, but is confident of them finding some form.
“I don’t see a reason to change our playing style completely but we need to do better in not conceding goals that for sur,” he said.
“The thing that gives me the most confidence is the quality of the players that we have. And, the amount of chances these players are still creating.
“This will eventually always lead to these players scoring more goals than we have done until now.”
