Liverpool manager Arne Slot dismissed a question over a seemingly imminent deal for Bayer Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong following their 3-2 defeat to Brighton and Hove Albion.

Frimpong is reported to have completed a medical with the Premier League champions ahead of a transfer believed to be worth a fee in the region of £30million.

The Netherlands international can play anywhere on the right flank, including right-back, but is more known for his attacking tendencies than his defensive capabilities.

Frimpong scored five goals and 14 assists for Leverkusen this season, having found the net 14 times and laid on 10 assists in all competitions in their double-winning season of 2023-24.

But the option of using Frimpong as a full-back makes him a candidate to fill the void Trent Alexander-Arnold will leave with his impending move to Real Madrid.

Asked by Sky Sports about the speculation around Frimpong, Slot said: “I think what we all know is the moment we announce it, that is the moment to talk about it in general.

“We haven’t announced anything so no need to talk about anyone.”

A much-changed Liverpool twice led at Brighton through goals from Harvey Elliott and Dominik Szoboszlai, but Kaoru Mitoma made it 2-2 in the 69th minute before Jack Hinshelwood settled an entertaining encounter five minutes from the end of normal time.

“It was an equal game but the moment we were 2-1 up in the second half I felt as if us scoring the third one was more likely than them scoring the 2-2,” Slot said.

“But when they scored for 2-2 momentum swung their way and then they scored the third goal which was also a close margin.

“These games are a very close margin because it’s two very good teams on the pitch and unfortunately we didn’t score the third when we had chances to.”
