Liverpool head coach Arne Slot says the club could still move in the transfer market before Friday’s 11pm deadline.

The Reds have recently brought in Juventus winger Federico Chiesa in a deal worth around £10million, but have been on the hunt for a new central midfielder as well.

Slot’s men have enjoyed an unbeaten start to the new Premier League campaign, beating new boys Ipswich and Brentford in their opening two matches.

And while the Dutchman has hinted at another possible incoming, he admits he is not expecting anything.

Speaking to the media ahead of Liverpool’s clash with Manchester United this weekend, he said: “I’m not expecting anything, but again it’s not different than all the days before – if we see an opportunity we could act.”

New boy on the block

Chiesa, who starred for Italy during their Euro 2020 victory, is set to challenge the likes of Luis Diaz on the wing at Anfield.

Slot is excited by the 26-year-old and has given an update on his availability this weekend.

He added: “Excited. If we sign someone that can help us achieving our goals and improve our squad. If we then find someone we are of course really excited.

“One of the best things about working here is the culture of the team, they work really hard to achieve goals.

“It is really important that the first player you bring in has the same attitude and brings the same culture.

“He works really hard on and off the pitch and combines this with scoring goals.

“He is going to train with us today, but there is a bigger chance that he’s not in the squad for Sunday than he is. If injuries might come up, we might need him.

“I don’t expect him to be in, but I can not guarantee.”
