Real Madrid 5-1 Real Betis: Report, result and goals as Los Blancos run riot

Real Madrid produced a commanding display at the Santiago Bernabeu to sweep aside Real Betis 5-1, with Gonzalo Garcia scoring a hat-trick and Federico Valverde influential throughout as the hosts delivered one of their most convincing league performances of the season.

Madrid set the tone early, pinning Betis deep and repeatedly finding space down the left through Vinicius Junior.

The pressure told in the 20th minute when Rodrygo delivered a free-kick to the back post, where Gonzalo Garcia headed back across goal and into the bottom corner to open the scoring.

It marked the young forward’s first LaLiga goal of the campaign and reflected Madrid’s early dominance.

Betis struggled to build any sustained momentum, often resorting to speculative efforts from distance that failed to trouble Thibaut Courtois.

Their clearest opening came just before the interval when Juan Hernandez glanced a header over the bar, but Madrid went into half-time deservedly in front.

Garcia leads second-half surge

Any hope of a Betis response was quickly extinguished after the restart. Five minutes into the second half, Valverde clipped a measured pass into Gonzalo Garcia, who controlled on his chest before firing a low finish into the bottom corner to double the lead.

Soon after, Madrid struck again from a set-piece, with Raul Asencio powering home a header from Rodrygo’s corner to make it 3-0.

Betis briefly threatened to make things uncomfortable, hitting the post from a Giovani Lo Celso free-kick and forcing Courtois into a couple of saves.

Their reward arrived in the 66th minute when Hernandez capitalised on a defensive lapse, rounding the goalkeeper and finishing to reduce the deficit.#

But any momentum Betis gained was short-lived. Substitute Arda Guler played a key role in restoring Madrid’s cushion, releasing Gonzalo Garcia for his third goal of the afternoon.

The striker showed quick thinking to flick the ball into the far corner and complete his hat-trick, making it 4-1.

Madrid capped the afternoon in stoppage time as Valverde collected his second assist, delivering from the right for Fran Garcia to arrive unmarked at the far post and smash home the fifth.
