Jude Bellingham is likely to miss the start of next season after reports suggested the Real Madrid midfielder will undergo shoulder surgery in the summer.

Bellingham is due to feature for Madrid at this summer’s Club World Cup and then go under the knife in a bid to cure a long-standing problem that has hampered him since 2023 when he injured the joint against Rayo Vallecano.

The Club World Cup ends on July 13 and, with Madrid expected to go deep in the inaugural version of the expanded 32-team competition, his preparation for the next campaign will be seriously compromised.

Out till October

The BBC report Bellingham will miss all of Madrid’s pre-season programme and not return to first-team action until early October.

That would also see him miss England’s World Cup qualifiers against Serbia and Andorra in September.

Bellingham will be eager to get the problem sorted.

He has had to wear heavy shoulder strapping since the injury occurred and his second season at the Santiago Bernabeu has not been as impressive as his first.

Having scored 23 goals last term to help Carlo Ancelotti’s side to a La Liga and Champions League double, Bellingham has managed just 14 in the soon-to-be-concluded campaign which Madrid will end without a trophy.
