Wiegman keen to see England push on after running riot against Wales

England head coach Sarina Wiegman was delighted to see her players carry momentum on from their impressive Netherlands display to beat Wales at Euro 2025.

The Lionesses needed to win to book their place in the knockouts, or face being the first title holders to be eliminated in the group stages.

But a rampant performance, which saw England score six goals against the Welsh, proved why they are the reigning European champions.

And Wiegman was all business after the game, insisting the focus immediately turns to Sweden in the quarter-finals.

“I’m very happy with the performance. Of course we knew that Wales really wanted to fight and we tried to stay out of the fight”, she said.

“I think in most of the moments we did but in the beginning we were sloppy before we found a way to go around them and create some good chances and score some goals.

“I hope we keep going with this, that would be nice in the next game. We created great chances like we did against the Netherlands and now we have to break down Sweden in the next game.

“It is really good to see that we created so many chances. You can see the connections.

“It is nice to see more players who can score goals and that they keep doing things together. This is an intense tournament, and we played a top-level game straight away.

“Of course, you want to win the game and think of who’s next. When it is necessary, the players are ready to step in and step up for the team.”
