Sweden stun England early on in Euro 2025 quarter-final

England have left themselves with work today after falling behind to Sweden just two minutes into their Euro 2025 quarter-final.

Sweden made a strong start against the holders, taking an early lead through Kosovare Asllani, who calmly slotted home after being set up by Stina Blackstenius.

The goal came from Sweden’s first meaningful attack and put them in the driving seat as England looked for a way back in.

The Lionesses struggled to respond in the early stages, with several fouls disrupting their rhythm.

England’s first real chance came in the 6th minute when Lauren Hemp’s left-footed shot from a tight angle was saved well by Swedish goalkeeper Jennifer Falk.

Alessia Russo also won a free kick after being fouled by Magdalena Eriksson, but England are yet to hit back.

Defensively, England were tested on more than one occasion, with Leah Williamson conceding a corner and Stina Blackstenius forcing a block with a tricky left-footed effort.

If they are to have any chance of progressing further and making the final four, they will need to sharpen up at both ends of the pitch.
