Marc Guehi released from England squad and won’t travel to Albania

Marc Guehi has been withdrawn from the England squad and will return to Crystal Palace for further treatment on a foot problem.

The defender sustained the injury during Palace’s Conference League win over AZ Alkmaar last Thursday but still joined up with the Three Lions in the hope of being able to play in Sunday’s final World Cup qualifier against Albania on Sunday.

But a statement this afternoon confirmed the 25-year-old would not be considered for the game in Tbilisi and has been released.

Guehi missed Serbia win

Guehi has become a key part of Thomas Tuchel’s back four in England’s flawless World Cup qualifying campaign.

He missed last night’s 2-0 win over Serbia at Wembley with John Stones and Ezri Konsa lining up at the heart of the back four.

Guehi will hope to be fit when the Premier League resumes next weekend with Palace making the trip to winless Wolves.
