Egypt v Benin: Confirmed line-ups for AFCON round of 16 tie with Mohamed Salah recalled
Egypt have recalled their big-name players - including Mohamed Salah - for the clash with Benin
Mohamed Salah and Egypt will attempt to secure a place in the Africa Cup of Nations quarter-finals when they come up against Benin this afternoon.
The Pharaohs made 11 changes to their starting XI for their final pool game having already secured top spot in Group B. That resulted in a 0-0 draw against Angola.
Benin’s progress into the knockout phase was more complicated, qualifying as one of the best third-placed teams after winning one and losing two of their games in Group D.
Gernot Rohr’s side are priced at 9/1 with some bookmakers to cause an upset but the German was in bullish mood when he addressed the media yesterday.
He said: “Egypt is a high-level opponent but from the group matches we have played, we have acquired some experience on how to overcome such an opponent. We know we are the underdogs in this game but that does not mean that we don’t have the ambition to play a good match and qualify.”
