Son Heung-min is sure Harry Kane will be the biggest Tottenham fan on Wednesday as they look to claim Europa League glory.
Spurs face Manchester United in the final in Bilbao as they attempt to salvage a desperate campaign with a major trophy that would secure Champions League football for next season despite their lowly position in the Premier League, in which they have lost 21 games.
Kane and Son enjoyed a hugely prolific partnership during their time together at Tottenham, setting the Premier League goal combinations record by linking up for 47 goals before the former left to join Bayern Munich in 2023.
The England striker won his first major trophy this season as Bayern regained the Bundesliga title, and Son is looking to do the same with victory at San Mames.
Asked about his former strike partner, Son told a press conference ahead of the final: “Everybody knows Harry is my best mate and it was a huge honour playing alongside him.
“After he won the first title we had a chat about his trophy. He’s already on holiday so he doesn’t have to text me.
“I just concentrate myself with the boys. Harry will be the biggest Spurs fan tomorrow. I’m definitely sure he will be supporting us from holiday.”
Asked if it feels like now or never in terms of his chances of winning a major trophy with Spurs, Son replied: “In the future we never know.
“We might play next year’s Champions League or we might play in the final. We never know, but the chance I have now is real, it’s a fact.
“Tomorrow is a final, a Europa League final. This could be my last chance or there could be another chance, but I just want to concentrate about tomorrow – winning and lifting the trophy with the boys, celebrating together.”
