Sean Dyche has been handed a stiff opening test in charge of Nottingham Forest with Porto the visitors to the City Ground tonight.
Porto are top of the Primeira Liga having won seven of their first eight games, conceding just once. They have also won both of their first two games in the Europa League.
Forest turned to Dyche following the short tenure of Ange Postecoglou and the former Everton boss is not expecting a straightforward introduction.
He told the club’s official website: “It’s not an easy one. We’ve done quite a bit of analysis on them, and they’ve had a great start in their league and in this competition, and they’re a good outfit.
“We have respect for them, of course, but we’re looking for the energy. I spoke to the players about the edge and belief they showed last year. I remember watching the team go around the country and take everyone on, which is great when everyone is pulling in the same direction.
“It’s not easy, but things can change very quickly in football, and winning is always the thing that makes everyone feel better — not just me, but the players, the city, the feeling of the fans, all of it moulded together with winning.
“We’ve got to get back to that feeling, and we’ve got to do it fast, and the best way to do that is to win games.
“It’s going to be an interesting one, but me and the staff are really looking forward to it. It’s great to be here, and it means a lot to be wearing this badge — to me and the staff. Hopefully, we can do well and get ourselves off and running, and ideally that will be with a win.”
