Bayern Munich are monitoring the condition of Harry Kane ahead of their Champions League quarter-final clash with Real Madrid on Tuesday, with a late call expected on the striker’s involvement.

Kane trained with the squad before travelling to Spain, having been sidelined recently by what has been described as a minor ankle issue.

The problem ruled him out of both England’s friendly against Japan and Bayern’s weekend win over Freiburg, raising concerns over his availability for the first leg.

Head coach Vincent Kompany has kept his plans undisclosed, confirming only that a final decision will be taken closer to kick-off.

Key figure in Bayern’s plans

Kane’s potential absence would represent a significant blow given his output this season. The England captain has been central to Bayern’s attacking play, leading the Bundesliga scoring charts and contributing heavily in Europe.

Team-mate Joshua Kimmich emphasised the striker’s broader influence, pointing not only to his goal return but also his leadership and link-up play.

He said: “How many goals has he scored? How many assists does he have? Forty or 50 this season?

“This shows how important he is – apart from all the goals – extremely vital for our game.

“We are glad he is here with us. He is not only a poacher or a selfish goalscorer just trying to score as many goals as he can for us.

“He is an absolute leader who is always trying to have the maximum success for the team. This is a very special mindset for an attacking player. He’s a role model.

“It is important to have Harry on the pitch with us with all his qualities of leadership.”

Kompany indicated that the club will take a cautious approach, weighing up medical feedback before making a final call.
