Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta believes the Gunners are in an “exciting position” in the Champions League.

The North London club are 7-1 up on aggregate against PSV in the last-16 and set to cruise through to the quarter-finals.

They will meet either Atletico Madrid or Real Madrid in the final eight, a likely much tougher task than the one at hand against their Ducth opponents.

But Arteta remains keen to win the second leg to give his players confidence heading into the final stretch of the season.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference, he said:Β “It’s a competition that we have a lot of enthusiasm for and we have been very consistent in. Tomorrow can put us in exciting position.

“This is the demands that we put into every competition. It is the reality of where we are and we want to deliver. We are conscious that the demands of this club are to win competitions.

“We’re going to carry on fighting to try and win every game. That is all we can do.”

Defender William Saliba was alongside Arteta in the press room and added his twopence on the club’s situation.

While Arsenal’s Premier League title run may have fallen short once again this season, the Frenchman believes his side are extremely close to winning silverware.

He added:Β “Everyone wants to win the Champions League because it is a competition you watch when you are young. We will give everything and anything can happen.”

“I think we are close, very close. We will keep going, we don’t stop working. When you are at a club like this you want to win trophies. It’s sad but we have to keep going. I am really sure that we will arrive there.”
