Bayer Leverkusen have suffered a major blow to their hopes of winning silverware this season with the news star winger Florian Wirtz has been ruled out for βseveral weeksβ.
The Germany international was rested for Saturdayβs home game with Werder Bremen, with tomorrow nightβs Champions League round-of-16 clash with Bayern Munich in mind.
But he was brought on at half-time with Xabi Alonsoβs side trailing 1-0.

MRI reveals bad news for Wirtz
The statement read: βBayer 04 will have to manage without Florian Wirtz. The Germany international suffered a ligament injury in his right ankle in the home game against Werder Bremen [0-2] on Saturday. That was the diagnosis from an MRI scan following the game.Β
βThe 21-year-old midfielder will be out of action for several weeks.β
Bayer sporting director Simon Rolfes added: βThe loss of Florian obviously hits us hard in this phase of the season but we will compensate for him with a strong squad.Β

Bayern set to win back Bundesliga title
Leverkusen are already facing the prospect of losing out to Bayern on two fronts this season.
Vincent Kompanyβs men lead 3-0 in the Champions League after a one-sided first-leg in Bavaria last week while they hold an eight-point lead over Leverkusen at the top of the Bundesliga.
They did, however, miss the chance to pull 11 points clear after losing 3-2 at home to Bochum at the weekend.
