Roma vs Feyenoord betting tips: Europa Conference League Final preview, predictions and odds

The first-ever UEFA Europa Conference League Final sees a meeting of two club who live the shadows of their more successful rivals domestically.

Now though, on the continent, both are desperate to come out of the shadows and end their agonisingly long waits for European silverware.

AS Roma’s sole European triumph came way back in 1961, beating Birmingham City 4-2 in the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup Final.

I Giallorossi haven’t lifted silverware of any kind since the 2008 Coppa Italia so, to address this, serial winner José Mourinho was appointed last summer.

Since entering in the play-off round, Roma have taken this competition very seriously, swatting aside Trabzonspor before topping their group.

In the knockout phase, they’ve seen off Vitesse and Bodø/Glimt to set up a semi-final showdown with Leicester City.

Following a 1-1 draw in the English East Midlands, Tammy Abraham’s towering header at Stadio Olimpico booked their place in this final.

La Lupa’s supporters are all behind Mourinho, with the massive fanbase believing Roma’s trophy draught is set to come to an end.

The Portuguese coach can become just the second manager to win the first, second and third-tier European trophies, matching Giovanni Trapattoni.

Don’t count out Feyenoord though; this’ll be their 19th European game of the season, having began in the second qualifying round on 22 July.

In this run, Arne Slot’s side have scored 43 goals, netting three or more against Drita, Luzern, Elfsborg, Union Berlin, Partizan and Slavia Praha.

Their semi-final against Olympique de Marseille was always going to be a closer contest as two former European Champions clashed.

The first leg at De Kuip was decided by a goal scored just 14 seconds into the second half; Cyriel Dessers pouncing on some rather charitable defending.

The Dutch giants then defended their 3-2 advantage at Stade Vélodrome a week later, grounding out the most memorable of goalless draws.

So, de club aan de Maas have qualified for their fourth European Final, looking to maintain their 100% record in these showpiece occasions.

To date, Feyenoord have lifted the European Cup in 1970 and the UEFA Cups of 1974 and 2002, defeating Celtic, Tottenham and Borussia Dortmund respectively.

Now, they’re looking to add this competition to their roll of honour.

Who will be crowned the maiden UEFA Europa Conference League winners at the brand-new Arena Kombëtare in Tirana?

Roma’s main man this season, without doubt, has been striker Tammy Abraham.

His brace on Friday night against Torino took his tally to 27 for the season, nine of which have come in Europe.

27 is the most any player has ever scored in their first campaign with Roma, breaking the record held by Gabriel Batistuta and Vincenzo Montella.

Nicolò Zaniolo was rested at the weekend but will return here, displacing Eldor Shomurodov.

Captain Lorenzo Pellegrini will continue in-behind while Henrikh Mkhitaryan, who scored in the 2017 Europa League Final, is out injured.

At the back, Marash Kumbulla will feel at home, having already played twice for Albania at Arena Kombëtare earlier this season.

However, he’ll be on the bench for this one with Chris Smalling, known as Smalldini, returning alongside Roger Ibañez and Gianluca Mancini.

Goalkeeper Rui Patrício has played in ten cup finals for club and country, winning seven to date, so his experience could be invaluable.

Wing-back Leonardo Spinazzola has only made three appearance all season having suffered an Achilles Tendon rupture during Euro 2020.

However, he could keep his place on the left, while 20 year old Nicola Zalewski will be chosen over Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Rick Karsdorp.

Will José Mourinho make history, not only personally but for his club?

ROTTERDAM, NETHERLANDS – APRIL 7: Marcos Senesi celebrating with Luis Sinisterra of Feyenoord during the Quarter Finals UEFA Europa League match between Feyenoord and Slavia Prague at De Kuip on April 7, 2022 in Rotterdam, Netherlands (Photo by Herman Dingler/BSR Agency/Getty Images)

Arne Slot is without first-choice goalkeeper Justin Bijlow as well a Gernot Trauner and Tyrell Malacia, all of whom are injured.

In the absence of Bijlow, Ofir Marciano will continue to deputise in goal; he’s kept just six clean sheets in 19 appearances.

At the other end of the pitch, Luis Sinisterra and Cyriel Dessers have been the key figures in this European run.

Both have scored 11 in Europe this season, with Dessers netting against all six different opponents he’s faced in UEFA competition this campaign.

Alireza Jahanbakhsh completed the attack in their last outing, a 2-1 defeat to FC Twente ten days ago.

However, Bryan Linssen, Patrik Wålemark or, most likely, Reiss Nelson will come in; the Arsenal loanee has started the last seven European matches.

Key midfielder Orkun Kökçü hobbled off against Twente, but is hopeful of being fit to start this one.

Centre-back Marcos Senesi has made 48 appearances this season, and it hoping the 49th ends with him lifting silverware aloft.

Rinus Israël and Paul Bosvelt are the only two men to captain Feyenoord to European glory, so will Senesi become the third?
