Tbe Club World Cup is quickly becoming a tournament to forget for Real Madrid defender Raul Asencio.

Asencio was at fault for the equaliser Madrid conceded in their tournament opener with Al Hilal, his foul on Marcos Leonardo allowing Ruben Neves to level at 1-1.

And the centre-back made another huge defensive error in Sunday’s Group H clash with Pachuca, one which saw him sent off in the seventh minute.

Asencio was given his marching orders for hauling down Pachuca striker Salomon Rondon after the Venezuela international beat Madrid’s high defensive line to go through on goal.

The actions of Asencio prevented his side from conceding, with the subsequent free-kick curled over the bar.

But his dismissal means Asencio will miss Madrid’s final group game with Red Bull Salzburg, with that game looking increasingly difficult as Xabi Alonso’s men continue to labour in the early stages of the newly expanded competition.
