Today’s wonderkid is tomorrow’s nightclub promoter.
That’s not a saying in football but it might become one after it was revealed that former prodigy Freddy Adu has started touring an unexpected kind of club circuit.
John Bennett, a sports reporter for BBC, tweeted an advertisement for a night at a club called the Shadowroom hosted by Freddy Adu.
Once described as the next Pele, Adu made his MLS debut when he was 14 years old in a sea of hyperbole as big European clubs watched with excited eyes.
Eleven years later and the electrifying prospect is a free agent after being released by Serbian side FK Jagodina, his tenth club. The American forward once had a trial at Manchester United but the club passed on him.
Despite appearing to possess significant talent, it hasn’t clicked anywhere for Adu.
He’s played only 59 minutes of competitive football since 2012 and wasn’t offered a contract by Blackpool last year after training with the Championship side. We hope that he can somehow find a way to resurrect his career.
