Arsenal’s Mesut Özil voted ‘Best German Abroad’ by Kicker Magazine

By Paul Morrissey

Mesut Ozil has been voted the ‘Best German Abroad’ by German magainze Kicker in their biannual awards.

The Kicker Awards are divided into four categories: world class, international class, players of note and players in focus.

The Arsenal playmaker is the only player from outside the Bundesliga to make the cut into the ‘World Class’ category.

Which is no surprise really: with 16 assists already this season, Ozil is set to smash the assists record held by former Gunner Thierry Henry, which stands at 20.

Aside from his raw numbers, Ozil has been sensational all season, and has greatly upped his general input with thorough performances.

But then in any case, ‘Best German Abroad’ isn’t the most competitive category right now….

Given Per Merstsacker’s performances and the fact that Lukas Podolski now plays at Galatasaray, Ozil would probably have won this award with zero assists to his name.
