Match preview for Real Valladolid v Barcelona

Fresh from another Champions League thriller, Barcelona are back in domestic action as they look to strengthen their position at the top of La Liga.

Hansi Flick’s side have a four-point cushion over Real Madrid going into the weekend and beat Valladolid 7-0 earlier this season

Real Valladolid are bottom of the table, having lost their last seven LaLiga games, but they have never suffered eight consecutive defeats in their history in the top-flight.

Valladolid were relegated last weekend with coach Álvaro Rubio about to take charge of his first game against Barca.

“We can’t make up excuses,” Rubio said. “We didn’t play up to the level of the first division. We have to take responsibility and accept that we didn’t do things well. We have to try to get back up and finish the season with dignity.”

Team news for Real Valladolid v Barcelona

Valladolid are waiting on news of the injury picked up last week by Javi Sanchez. If he cannot play then Joseph Aidoo is expected to come in.

Barca may choose to rest some players ahead of the second leg of their Champions League semi-final against Inter.

Striker Robert Lewandowski and Alejandro Balde both missed the first leg and will sit this one out, but first-choice goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen could return after a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
