Preview for Club Brugge v Arsenal
Club Brugge will have a familiar face in the dugout tomorrow night with Ivan Leko brought back to replace Nicky Hayen.
Hayen was sacked yesterday despite leading the club to a dramatic league title last season after succeeding Ronny Deila in March. The weekend defeat against St Truidense meant the end for the 45-year-old with Leko, who led Club Brugge from 2017 to 2019, brought back from Gent.
Gent reacted with surprise and claimed to know nothing about it.
Chairman Sam Baro said: “I just learned through the press that Nicky Hayen has been dismissed from Club Brugge and that Ivan Leko is his successor. I’m as stunned as anyone. I can only say that Club Brugge hasn’t contacted us.”
Leko’s first task will be to try to put a dent in Arsenal’s 100 per cent Champions League record.
The Gunners sit at the top of the table having won all of their first five games, conceding just one goal in the process.
But they go into the contest on the back of Saturday’s stunning last-gasp defeat at Aston Villa – their first loss in 18 games.
Team News for Club Brugge v Arsenal
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is set to make several changes with Arsenal in a strong position and the weekend clash with Wolves in mind.

Club Brugge have a goalkeeping problem with both Nordin Jackers and Simon Mignolet out.

The hosts will be buoyed by the return of Leko but it’s a tough ask for them to see off an Arsenal side that have blazed a trail through Europe this season.
Even though Arteta will make changes, Arsenal will still be able to field a strong XI that ought to be good enough to claim the three points.
