Aston Villa take on Liverpool tonight in the Premier League with both sides desperate for points for different reasons.

Arne Slot’s Reds know a win will see them move 10 points clear of Arsenal at the summit and also tick off another difficult fixture in the run-in.

Villa sit ninth having won just three of their last 10 league games and with time running out in their bid to secure a second successive season in the Champions League.

Former Villa hero Stan Collymore described this season as “mildly disappointing” but a strong finish can still see them realise their ambitions.

Villa hampered by defensive woes

Unai Emery’s side have struggled recently with injuries in defensive positions and have kept just three clean sheets in the league all season.

If there’s one team that can capitalise it’s Liverpool. The Merseysiders are the top scorers in the top flight with 60 goals in 25 games.

And in Mo Salah, they possess the most complete forward in the league. The Egyptian leads the table in goals (23) and assists (14) and should be backed to maintain his scoring streak at Villa Park tonight.

It won’t be one-way traffic though and Villa’s recent acquisitions of Marcus Rashford and Marco Asensio mean they will present a major threat going forward.
