Bet of the Day: Aston Villa and Bayern Munich to start weekend with wins

Aston Villa are spinning several plates this season. 

Unai Emery’s men are still in the Champions League and battling hard to return to Europe’s top table by clinching a top-five place in the Premier League.

And yet ask any Villa fan the priority over the coming weeks and the majority would likely say the FA Cup.

Villa have not won the competition since 1957 although they did finish as runners-up in 2000 and 2015.

Tonight they face Cardiff in the fifth round in what ought to be a routine assignment for Emery and his expensively-assembled squad.

Cardiff are 19th in the Championship and secured their first win in five last time out with a 1-0 win over fellow strugglers Hull City.

We fancy Villa to win and win well, so are going for over two goals in a handsome home victory.

Relentless Bayern to march on

Our second selection comes in the Bundesliga with leaders Bayern Munich visiting Stuttgart.

Vincent Kompany has defied many of the sceptics by impressing at the Allianz Arena and a win tonight would see Bayern move 11 points clear ahead of the weekend fixtures.

Stuttgart finished second last season but are currently seventh having not won either of their last two games.

One look at Bayern’s attacking line-up suggests there will be goals – they are averaging three a game in the Bundesliga this season.
