Augsburg 1-3 Bayern Munich: Kane goal helps Bayern move nine points clear

Bayern Munich extended their lead at the top of the Bundesliga to nine points with a 3-1 win away at Augsburg.

Despite falling behind early on, Vincent Kompany’s side showed their title credentials with a strong second-half performance, capitalising on a red card to secure all three points.

The first half was a closely contested affair, with Bayern dominating possession but struggling to convert that control into clear-cut chances.

Augsburg stunned the visitors on the half-hour mark when Dimitrios Giannoulis produced a moment of brilliance, chesting down a long pass from Jeffrey Gouweleeuw before rifling a shot into the roof of the net.

Bayern responded before the break through Jamal Musiala, who danced his way through a crowded penalty area to score with a classy finish.

However, the young German’s evening was cut short after he suffered a suspected hamstring injury early in the second half – a concerning development for Bayern ahead of their Champions League tie with Inter Milan.

The turning point came just before the hour when Augsburg’s Cedric Zesiger was shown a second yellow card for a foul on Harry Kane.

Moments later, Bayern took full advantage as Michael Olise whipped in a perfect cross for Kane to head home and give the visitors the lead.

Despite being a man down, Augsburg remained spirited and carved out a few late chances, but their resistance was finally broken in stoppage time.

Leroy Sane’s driven cross was deflected into his own net by Chrislain Matsima, sealing the win for Bayern.
