Premier League holders Manchester City kicked off their 2023-24 campaign in expected fashion yesterday evening after Pep Guardiola’s hegemonic outfit dispatched former on-pitch lieutenant Vincent Kompany and his Burnley side 3-0 at Turf Moor, but there are already concerns early doors after star creator-in-chief Kevin De Bruyne is once again due to sit on the sidelines.
Per reports from The Athletic’s David Ornstein, the mercurial Belgian midfielder is set to undergo a scan at the beginning of the week to add clarity to the possible severity of his latest injury setback, which is reportedly a recurring hamstring problem stemming from the Champions League final according to Guardiola.

De Bruyne managed to complete just 23-minutes of action away from The Etihad before being replaced by summer signing Mateo Kovačić after City had already blitzed to a 1-0 lead by the 4th minute thanks to none other than Erling Haaland.
Thankfully for City, recent links have placed the champions in the possible position of completing a deal for West Ham United star Lucas Paquetá, and should the club complete a rumored ~£100m move for the Brazilian and recent Europa Conference League winner, it could be business as usual for Guardiola and company.
